Implant Supported Dentures

Sun Valley Smile Designs provides the highest quality procedures in the restoration of dental implants in the Wood River Valley. If you have lost one or more teeth due to an accident or gum disease, you may now replace it permanently through our state-of-the-art techniques. Our practice has been in the industry of providing implants for over 30 years. Dr. John Calvert’s expertise in this highly technical area of dentistry is well known to have amazing results. He can replace your missing tooth or multiple teeth and restore their natural form and function as if they were never missing.

The Process Involves the Following Steps:

  1. Consultation – Dr. Calvert needs to determine if this procedure is right for you. To be a candidate, you must have enough jawbone width and depth to surround the implant. If the amount of bone is insufficient, simple bone augmentation procedures can often be done.
  2. Placement – The next step in the process involves the placement of the implants to the area where we wish to replace teeth. This structure is a very small titanium cylinder.
  3. Osseointegration – After placement, a period of time will be needed to allow the implant to integrate with the surrounding bone. This will ensure that your new restoration will be secure and strong.
  4. Crown Fabrication – A temporary crown may be placed while you wait for your implant to become secure. Once the implant is ready, Dr. Calvert will create your new natural looking crown.
  5. Crown Placement – Dr. Calvert will insert the crown taking care that it fits the space and surrounding teeth precisely. Your new teeth are now ready to serve you for years if not decades to come.

“We’ve done many cases where the patient is missing a front tooth or teeth. After we have placed an implant and created the perfect crown or crowns for their specific mouth, you can’t tell they were ever missing a tooth. It truly feels like you grew new teeth.” – Dr. John Calvert

“We’ve done many implant retained dentures. In fact, I’ve even completed this procedure on my parents. Unfortunately, they grew up in an age where keeping your teeth wasn’t primary and I guess fortunately for them they have a son that is a dentist and I was able to make both of them some very nice and natural looking dentures that they don’t have to worry about coming out when they’re talking or when they’re laughing or eating.”  – Dr. John Calvert

Our practice has been providing this highly effective solution for years. We may ensure comfort and convenience throughout your treatment process. If you are in need of this advanced procedure or you want to know more about our process, call us at 208-471-8770.

Did You Know?

Approximately 30 million people live with no natural teeth in one or both jaws. But more and more dental patients are opting for dental implants as a means of tooth replacement. The American Academy of Implant Dentistry reports that 3 million people currently have dental implants – a number that is rapidly growing by about 500,000 per year. Modern titanium implants were first developed in the 1950’s, but archaeologists have determined that ancient Egyptians and Mayans were the first cultures to implant artificial teeth.

Frequently Asked Questions

You may qualify for dental implants in Ketchum if you have missing, broken or severely decayed teeth and are in relatively good overall health. The only way of determining your eligibility for implants is to consult with an oral care provider to identify whether you have adequate bone support and healthy gums that will support the new tooth structure.

The placement of dental implants is a multi-step process that typically takes between 2 and 5 months to complete. It begins with a surgical procedure during which a titanium rod is placed where a previous natural tooth root once was. The gums are sutured shut over the implant, where it will stay for several months while it heals and begins fusing with the surrounding bone. Due to the nature of implant placement and its average procedure time of between 1 and 2 hours, you’ll be sedated and/or anesthetized for the duration of the treatment. At the conclusion of the healing period, you’ll return to be fitted for permanent crowns and have them placed.

It is normal to experience some discomfort, including bruising and swelling following a dental implant procedure. However, inflammation and pain may be managed with over-the-counter medications, hydrocodone, or codeine. You may be asked to eat only soft foods for approximately 2 weeks until the surgical site heals.
